Custard Powder Cookies — A Bakery Treat with a Twist

ree

Think cookies are just about chocolate chips or butter? Think again. These custard powder cookies are an unexpected delight that bring together the richness of buttery biscuits and the soft, creamy aroma of classic custard. While custard is often seen in puddings or fruit salads in Indian homes, using it in cookies creates a melt-in-the-mouth texture you simply won’t find in regular biscuits.

Ingredients:

1 cup (125g) maida or all-purpose flour

½ cup (60g) James Custard Powder

½ cup (115g) unsalted butter (slightly softened)

½ cup (60g) powdered sugar

½ tsp James Baking Powder

1–2 tbsp milk (only if needed)

Instructions:

  1. We will start off by preheating the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.

  2. Next, we will whisk together butter and sugar until it is pale and fluffy.

  3. After that we will add the custard powder and mix it until it is well combined.

  4. Now, we will take a sieve and pour the flour and the baking powder through it, into the mixture to prevent lumping. We will fold them into the mixture gently. Here is a quick tip- If dough feels crumbly, add milk gradually until it just comes together.

  5. Moving on, we will roll the dough into small balls, place on the tray and press lightly with a fork for a bakery-style pattern on top.

  6. Next, we will bake them for 12–15 minutes or until the edges are just golden.

  7. After they are done, remove them from the oven. Let them cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.

Try something that’s both familiar in flavor and excitingly new in form. You can pair them beautifully with tea, coffee or even warm milk!
